The national senior indoor championships took place in Abbotstown Dublin at the weekend. Monaghan Phoenix were represented by Niamh Malone and Paul Peppard with both athletes running the 400m. Paul has had a fine indoor season to date with success already with a bronze medal in the U23 competition. Paul again ran a new personal best with a time of 49.58 seconds finishing in second place in his heat. This time positioned him in 7th place overall which is an excellent achievement for this young athlete. Niamh Malone was taking part at this level for the first time and finished her heat in 3rd place in a season’s best time of 58.43. This put Niamh in 9th place overall and again a superb result for this talented young lady in national competition.
Phoenix were well represented in Rossmore Park for the charity event in aid of the Kevin Bell repatriation trust. This event was organised by Peter McKenna with his family and friends and was a very enjoyable event. Orla McKenna and Emer McKenna had super runs with Orla first and Emer third ladies to finish. Both ladies were presented with lovely trophies for their effort and the large crowd enjoyed a cup of tea with some treats at the finish line. Well done to all who took part and thanks to the organisers for hosting an excellent event. Please find us on Facebook for training times and locations.
