National Gold for Deirbhile

Monaghan Phoenix continued its successful season with some fine performances at national level over the past two weeks.  At the Juvenile B championships in Tullamore, Deirbhile Keenan was the star of the show winning the Shot Put with a personal best performance.  Deirbhile is one of our hardest working athletes, and this medal comes after a lot of dedication and commitment.  Our U.18 and U.19 girls took part in the National Relays and did not disappoint.  Our U.18 team of Caoimhe O’Hanlon, Sorcha O’Neill, Emma Glynn and Cedhla Bogue ran a superb relay to narrowly miss out on a medal to finish in 4th.   Our u.19 team of Caoimhe O’Hanlon, Blaithin Bogue, Lucia Warnock and Sorcha O’Neill also ran a strong relay, and were rewarded with a silver medal.  This is a superb achievement, and was the first national medal for all these athletes.  Our u.13 relay team of Daisy Walker, Leah Keenan, Kate McKenna and Katie Glynn also took part and ran a superb race, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.  At the National Juvenile Championships, the club was well represented with Eoin Sheridan competing in the 600m, Sorcha O’Neill in the 400m, Andrew McKenna in the 800m and Oran O’Caolain in the 3000m.  Eoin ran a superb race to finish 5th in a very competitive field.  All these young athletes will learn a lot from competing at this high level.
